Your Media99 florist website transactions have three levels of security.

The security of both you and your customer are very important. The process of an online transaction from a florist website contains information that is sensitive to both the customer and you, the florist. We understand that when a person orders flowers online from your shop it is different than the standard e-commerce transaction.

When flowers are ordered they are very seldom sent to the same address as the person buying them. And they aren't delivered in a conventional way. UPS or FedEx won't be dropping of a package between 7am and 9pm whether the recipient is there or not. A driver will be hand-delivering your creation to the recipient. Along with the personal service of creating the arrangement and delivering it to the recipient, there is quite a bit of information transmitted over the internet to make it all happen.

Media99 protects your information with three levels of security:
  • Recipient Information
  • Purchaser Information
  • Order Submission

Recipient Information

This information is needed for the properly delivery of your floral artistry. Name, address (sometimes a business, funeral home, apartment, etc.), and several more critical pieces of information are entered into the recipient's information fields. While it doesn't contain a credit card number it does have information related to the individual receiving the gift. Therefore, it is personal, and personal information should be protected.

The first level of our security comes after this information is entered into the recipient information fields, and the continue button is clicked. This is where the information passes through the first security checkpoint. Compare this to going to the airport, obtaining your boarding pass and then passing general security. The information is then encrypted and send to the next level.

Purchaser and Payment Information

This part of the online order process does contain sensitive information, such as credit card numbers and CCV codes. The information entered into the purchaser and payment fields is encrypted, and then sent along with the previous information through the second checkpoint. This is the part at the airport where you are randomly selected for the pat-down lane. Yup. Your data passed general security, now it is being screened again. Borderline data harassment.

Order Submission

The third checkpoint is when your customer clicks the Submit Order button. Back at the airport this is where you are escorted to a room with no windows for a more "thorough" search. We won't go into detail about what happens to your data at this point, and we will spare you the grisly details. We will just say that all of the information is encrypted once again before being sent to the florist.

Information Purging

We purge the credit card number is purged within 3 to 5 days whether it is transmitted or not.  The CCV or security code is erased as soon as a successful delivery occurs, but also no later than 3 to 5 days. This ensures that none the transmitted data stays in our system, removing the possibility of retrieval during any attempted system breach.

The Media99 shopping cart and checkout system are custom written for the florist industry. Instead of taking a commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) product and trying to make it adapt to the industry, we built our software from the ground up with floral e-commerce in mind. In doing so this allows us to implement custom levels of security, protecting everyone's information while providing smooth transactions for the florist.
